I love this book, as well as the author John Green! I follow John Green on Facebook and Twitter and all of that, so I've been keeping up to date on the movie release. I watched the trailer multiple times on youtube, and I made my husband sit through them when they came on TV instead of fast forwarding through like we do with most other commercials. So, I obviously knew the movie was coming out June 6th and I was planning to drag my husband to go see it with me.
The tickets to this early showing are quite a bit more than what I would usually spend on a movie, but come on! To me, this is a rare opportunity! I get to see a movie I have been excited for, get free popcorn (I am a Magical Movie Rewards member), AND there is a simulcast afterward where they show John Green's cameo, which was deleted scene. I think they also do a Q&A with John Green, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort and Nat Wolf. I'm pretty excited to see John Green. It won't be in person, but this may be as good as it gets for me! I am a big fan of his since he basically does what I would love to do. Author Young Adult novels. Heck, I'd like to write any kind of novel at this point!
As I am writing this now, it is the day of the show. I will finish this post either tonight after the movie, or tomorrow! Here is my youtube video where I fangirl about John Green and The Fault in Our Stars!
* * *
It is now tomorrow, er...today, but tomorrow in regards to what I said earlier. You get it.
Well, last night was quite an experience! We got in the line that was waiting outside, which wasn't horribly long. We only had to wait about 10-15 minutes to be let in. We got inside, got our seats and I headed to the concessions for our 2 free popcorns. I got in line behind a girl and she commented on my shirt saying it was her favorite quote from the movie, which is "My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations". She corrected herself and said it was her favorite quote from the book. I hadn't even caught the mistake, but me had a chuckle over it and she told me her friend's mom (whom she'd come with) had brought a whole box of tissues. Smart woman.
While we waited for the movie to begin, the following screens showed, along with a song from the movie:
Before the movie began, there were limited previews, and then John Green came on the screen to welcome us to the movie. Then, the movie began!
I do not want to do any spoilers for anyone who may not have read the book or seen the movie yet. I will tell you that it was even better than I expected. I bawled my eyes out and did an ugly cry. My husband laughed at me. Apparently he was able to choose not to cry. He was one of the few. The theater was full of sobbing women.
Though it was a tearjerker, much like the book, there were humorous parts as well. If you have read the book, you know all about that. Isaac, played by Nat Wolff, was incredibly funny to me. As, of course, was Gus, played by Ansel Elgort.
The one thing I could have done without during the movie was all of the teenage girls going "Awww!" every time Gus was on the screen for the first half of the movie, and other parts throughout. But, I guess that's what you get for going to a Young Adult movie!
All in all, the movie was fantastic, and I highly recommend it. Just be warned, there is a likelihood you will cry, so bring some tissues.
After the movie, the credits rolled and we waited from the Live Q&A. Birdy, a musician who has a song on the soundtrack, played two of her songs, "Not About Angels" and "Skinny Love".
During the Q&A, we learned what John Green's favorite scene from the movie was: (SPOILER ALERT) The eulogy scene in the church. There were plenty of other things discussed, but I cannot remember all of them at this point. Perhaps I will add them to this post if I recall them later. I got a few pictures of the Q&A, most of them are blurry, but here are a few of them that turned out OK-ish.

After the Q&A Nat Wolff and his brother Alex Wolff performed two songs. Then we got to see John Green's cameo, which was cut from the film for time.
